About IRES

Interdisciplinary Research and Educational Services (IRES) was founded in 2020 in response to demand brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. IRES provides educational services focusing on delivering programs that promote the breakdown of barriers between research, academic, and industrial disciplines and promote evidence-based research in interdisciplinary and STEM/STEAMD fields.

IRES’s programs have historically been focused on co-operative education and experiential learning, as well as community-based service learning. We work with school boards across Ontario and post-secondary institutions across Canada to provide rich, authentic, real-world and relevant interdisciplinary and inquiry-based experiential learning placements in research, education, and STEM/STEAM fields. All of our placements are focused on essential and transferable skills development, as well as developing skills within research and scientific literacy. Our programs develop knowledge and skills in interdisciplinary research, and soft skills, while supporting the real-world application and communication of academic work.

Here at IRES we believe it is important to ensure everyone has access to research and education, as a result many of our programs and resources are delivered virtually or in a blended environment allowing us to offer the same opportunities to students who are in rural or Northern communities as well as provide uninterrupted services through the COVID-19 pandemic. We strive to support underserved communities in research such as women, LGBTQ+, BIPOC, and rural communities.
